The Soho Center continues to make donations locally and regionally to groups working on literacy and with children.  Here are details of some recent donations -     NEWEST DONATION Soho Donates Holiday Books and Bears  to Madison County Library Jeanna Beker (left), Director of the Soho Center, with Nancy Demarest, President, Madison County Library Board of Directors, with Holiday Books and Bears donated by the Soho Center.  For children of all ages, the coming Holidays are a special time - and a great time to read books with Holiday themes. Says Jeanna Beker, "Over the years, the Soho Center has supported the Madison Library with donations of computers and monitors.  Now that the Library has expanded its facility, we can actually donate BOOKS!"  The Soho Center has selected a variety of quality children's picture books for pre-schoolers, beginning readers, and older children that feature winter and Christmas Holiday themes.  Adds Beker, "We love to make reading enjoyable for children, and each of these books is especially wonderful at this time of year.  There are beautiful stories and illustrations, recipes, songs, and craft projects for children and parents enjoy together."  Nancy Demarest says, "We're grateful to the Soho Center for their generous donation of Holiday books to the Madison County Library. Children will love them - and the bears will be a great addition to our new Children's Section."  The Soho Center's book donation to the Library is part of the Soho Center's on-going book giveaway program to promote children's literacy. Over the past several years, the Soho Center has given away thousands of quality children's books to Madison County schools, Skyline CAP's Head Start programs in Madison and surrounding Counties, Culpeper's Head Start program, and to hundreds of family child care providers across the state.      OTHER RECENT DONATIONS Books and Bunnies for Easter to Page County,  Madison County, and Greene County Head Start Ashley Adams, Skyline CAP Head Start Director (left) accepts Easter baskets of bunny books and stuffed bunnies from Jeanna Beker, Director, Soho Center.  For many young children, Easter includes Easter egg hunts and candy. Now, thanks to a gift from the Soho Center to Page, Greene, and Madison Counties' Head Start children, it also includes wonderful children's bunny books and stuffed bunnies. Says Jeanna Beker, "The Soho Center has selected quality children's picture books for pre-schoolers and beginning readers that feature bunnies - classics like "Peter Rabbit" and the "Velveteen Rabbit" as well as newer titles that teach colors, numbers, and telling time.  We love to make reading enjoyable for children, and each of these books can be read at Easter and then enjoyed year-round."  Adds Ashley Adams, "We're grateful to the Soho Center for their generous donation of books and bunnies to Skyline CAP Head Start.  Our kids will love them - and the teachers will put them to great use in the classrooms for many years to come!"      Soho Donates Books and Literacy Materials to Skyline CAP Madison County and Greene County Head Start Programs Jeanna Beker, Soho Center Director (left) and Ashley Adams, Head Start  Director, Skyline CAP Head Start (right) with three-year-olds at the  Greene County Skyline CAP Head Start program     Jeanna Beker and Ashley Adams read books to youngsters at the Madison County Skyline CAP Head Start program Head Start kids and parents in Greene County and Madison County have extra children's literacy resources thanks to a gift from the Soho Center. The Soho Center has donated 175 sets of literacy how-to materials for parents, 175 nutrition books for children to take home and read, and over 100 quality children's books for all Head Start classrooms to use.  Says Ashley Adams, Head Start Director, Skyline CAP, We are thrilled to have these new books in our Head Start classrooms and even more excited to be able to send additional books and educational materials home with the children.  Every time a child smiles while reading one of these books will be due to the generosity of the Soho Center."     Soho Donates Clothing to Orange Head Start Winter's coming - and the Soho Center is giving  Orange County's Head Start children over 75 winter garments - sweaters, winter jackets, vests, wind-breakers, hats, and gloves. This donation of winter apparel will help our families tremendously."  Adds Jeanna Beker, "The Soho Center is glad to spread some season's cheer and help lots of Orange County kids enjoy winter that much more."     Soho Supports Children's Literacy at Head Start Culpeper's Head Start kids and parents will have extra children's literacy resources thanks to a gift from the Soho Center. The Soho Center has donated 150 sets of how-to materials for parents, 150 books for children to take home and read, and numerous books for classroom use.  Says Pamela Jenkins, Program Director, "Culpeper Human Services Head Start is most grateful to the Soho Center for their donation.  These are extraordinary books about nutrition, the winter season, and just plain 'fun books' to read with children.  Our Head Start families will enjoy hours of great reading with their children. "  Adds Jeanna Beker, Director of the Soho Center, "We're so pleased to give Culpeper's kids and families this holiday gift of great literacy resources and quality children's books.  Reading is a life-long skill -  we love helping make it happen."     Soho Center Donates Monitors to Library Library patrons using the Library's computers will see bigger screens starting this week.  Says Bonnie Utz, Director, Madison County Library, "The Soho Center's thoughtful gift of three 21" color monitors greatly enhances our capacity to serve our community.  The larger screens make it much easier for our patrons to read, and Soho's gift means that money that would have been used to buy them can now be used for more books.  We are very appreciative."  Adds Jeanna Beker, Soho Center's Director, "The Soho Center has a long history of supporting literacy and especially children's literacy.  We're happy to once again help our library's efforts to serve Madison."
